The New Mayfair Hotel offers days out to guests during their stay, a favourite with all of our guests is our weekly trip to the Lake District. This trip takes us to the heart of the Lake District. We set off early from Blackpool and travel taking a scenic route to Bowness Bay where guests take in the snowdrops and daffodils of the spring time, the butterflies and scents of high summer and the magnificent colours of autumn.
On arrival at Bowness Bay our guests are given discount vouchers for the accessible Boatman’s café where a selection of hot and cold meals along with refreshments are available, prior to boarding the Teal Steamer which is fully accessible for wheelchair users.
On this particular trip we had our regular guests from the good companions group Theresa, Raymond, Gill & Billy supported by our carer Susan, this group have visited Blackpool for many years and visit 2- 3 times a year. It was a first on the Steamer for Susan who said she did not like boats but held her courage as we boarded and headed out into the lake. It was a nice day and the guests were able to sit outside on the deck to take in the from the Lake.
The Shar family were visiting the New Mayfair for the first time; they accessed our accessible pick up and return service to bring all four of them on their first holiday together. Shital booked with her partner Jamie, her brother Shecen along with Mum Manu, as first time guests at the hotel they wanted to take part in as many of the activities as possible. Shecen had visited the lakes many years ago whilst studying in Manchester so took advantage of this accessible opportunity to visit again, and enjoy time with his family cruising across the lake. The family all boarded the steamer and had front row seats on board the outer deck as we headed on our round trip from Bowness to Ambleside and back, the trip takes the best part of an hour so travellers can fully take in the experience of cruising across the lake.
Once back at Bowness the guests were given time to have a look around the holiday town with its open spaces, shops, cafes, restaurant and bars before heading back to Blackpool for evening meal and entertainment. Shital said the family were enjoying their stay at the New Mayfair Hotel, the facilities, food and entertainment had been enjoyable but more importantly the care facilities that we were able to offer meant they could relax and enjoy their holiday knowing we had carers in house to look after their needs when required.
